Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan and the largest city in Central Asia, a Silk Road trading center largely rebuilt after an earthquake destroyed much of it in 1966.

The reconstruction gave the city wide boulevards, generous parks and a metro whose stations were built as showpieces. Chorsu Bazaar and the old town keep the older shape of the place alongside it.
